Youth ends life in AP, relatives claim torture in custody

Family members of Veedhi Naveen Kumar, 26, staged a protest at Dharna Chowk here on Friday, alleging that he ended his life due to custodial torture at Adiveedu police station in West Godavari district.

They demanded a thorough investigation into the alleged custodial torture. Akiveedu police summoned Naveen Kumar in a family dispute filed by his wife and allegedly beat him up severely. The victim consumed the poison on May 11 and died the next day while undergoing treatment at a private hospital, family members claimed.

The West Godavari police did not respond to queries seeking clarification on the case. People in need can “dial 100” and ask for help.
