Youth Congress activists stormed the Kerala PSC headquarters on Thursday protesting alleged irregularities in various examinations conducted by the personnel agency.

Holding flags of the organization and raising slogans demanding the resignation of the Public Service Commission (PSC) chairman, the protesters entered the office premises after escaping security personnel.

Despite attempts by security personnel to stop them, the activists tried to force open the door of the meeting room and shouted slogans demanding his resignation.

They later staged a sit-in on the steps of the building and continued their protest before being removed by police personnel.

Two security personnel were reportedly injured when they tried to prevent the protesters from entering the building, official sources said.

The Youth Congress alleged that the PSC had “betrayed the aspirations of the youth of Kerala” and demanded a fair and transparent probe into the alleged irregularities.

The protest came a day after Chief Minister VD Satheesan announced that the crime branch of the police would investigate allegations of irregularities in the examinations conducted by the PSC for various government posts and services in the state.

Mr. Satheesan said the decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by him.

According to the chief minister, the crime branch will investigate complaints related to preparation of question papers, awarding of marks, conduct of interviews and appointments by the PSC.

He also said that complaints have been received regarding alleged irregularities in the conduct of inspection of the Kerala Administrative Service (KAS) by the commission.
