The youth, who allegedly printed counterfeit remarks and spread them in Bengalur, was arrested by the police of the commercial street police.
The accused, identified as Krish Mali, 23, the son of a textile trader in the city, allegedly fought with his parents and left home 1 June before he signed up to the hotel near Komerční Street. He checked out on June 7 and paid 3,000 GBP in cash.
The next day, garbage collectors reportedly found papers that looked like counterfeit remarks in the hotel’s waste bin, and handed them over to the manager. The manager, Mohammed Shareefuddin, grew suspect, checked six 500 ₹ notes that the accused gave during the inspection, and found that they were false. He filed a complaint against the Commercial Street police, which tracked the accused using the details of the Aadhaar card, which the accused provided when booking a hotel room.
During the interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to using a scanner and a color printer to make counterfeit remarks inside the hotel room because he ran out of money.
