Former US President Barack Obama’s quick wit was on full display during a campaign rally in New Jersey – and social media can’t get enough of it.
Speaking at an event supporting Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mikey Sherrill, Obama was interrupted mid-speech by an enthusiastic supporter who shouted words of affection. The moment caught on camera quickly turned into a viral clip.
Obama smiled and paused to reply, “I love you, but hold on, I heard you, girl. Just sit back. I’m here to talk to everybody, not just you,” prompting laughter and cheers from the audience.
But it was his next line that really won the internet. With his signature humor, Obama added: “I mean, you look cute. But I’m married. Michelle is cool too.” The crowd erupted in laughter and chanted “We love Michelle!” as Obama smiled before returning to his speech.
In response to the viral video, a user wrote: “I love his charismatic personality!”
Another user commented: “If anyone deserves a 3rd round, it’s him.”
“Imagine if the president was intelligent, articulate and QUALIFIED one day,” wrote a third user.
The 44th president was in New Jersey to campaign for Rep. Mikie Sherrill, who is running for governor in 2025. Obama praised her leadership and record on education, infrastructure and veterans affairs and urged voters to stay engaged.
“Go to your friends, grab your family members and tell them to go vote,” he told the crowd. “If you do this, New Jersey – if you meet this moment – you will not only elect Mikey Sherrill as your next governor, but you will set a great example for this nation.”
Obama’s easy charm and humor-filled exchanges reminded many of his enduring connection with audiences — a reminder, fans online said, of why he remains one of America’s most charismatic political figures.
