
An interview at the workplace between the Indian manager and the employee became a viral after the manager repeatedly refused to grant a holiday to a worker who told he was suffering from headache.
The exchange, originally shared on the Reddit called “My Manager, when I ask for a holiday” included the screen of their Chat WhatsApp. The post quickly gained traction, with many social media users criticized the lack of empathy and unrealistic expectations.
In a viral chat, the employee informed his boss that he had headaches and may not be able to come to work. However, the manager insisted that he was still reporting to the office and replied, “Take the medicine and come. It’s nothing, it will be better. It’s just a headache.”
When the employee later said he was still well and couldn’t come, the manager doubled: “Take the medicine, the hero.
The boss then added: “Now you are part of the company. Relax if necessary but come to the office.”
The conversation triggered a wave of reactions online, while users called a toxic culture in the workplace and pressure to prefer health work. Many of them commented that employers must prove more compassion and flexibility when employees are good.
One Reddit user wrote, “I never” ask “for sheets. I leave and inform. I will adapt to other days to compensate. ”
“That’s so terrible. You are entitled to sick leave, just ask for one,” another user wrote.
“Buddy do not go to the office, stand on the ground, do not let yourself be crossed by other human boundaries,” wrote the third user.
Since then, the contribution has launched a wider debate on social media on balance between work and private life and the importance of healthy boundaries of employers-employers.
