Ben Cohen, co -founder of Ben & Jerry ice cream, was arrested on Wednesday after disrupting the hearing of the Senate to protest against American military assistance to Israel and humanitarian conditions in Gaza, according to the US Police Capitol.
Cohen was removed from the hearing of the Committee for Health, Education, Education, Education, Work and Pensions, where Robert F. Kennedy JR.
“You are killing poor children in Gaza and paying for cutting Medicaid for children here,” Cohen shouted from the public gallery before he was accompanied by the police tied behind his back. “Let food to Gaza,” he added, when he was taken away, according to the videos posted online by Cohen.
The Capitol police said Cohen was accused of the Columbia District Code, which forbids the crowd, prevents or misunderstanding – a quotation that is often used in cases of civil disobedience in the capital. According to the police, Capitol is six other demonstrators arrested in hearing.
Cohen, a long -time progressive activist, co -founded Ben & Jerry’s in 1978 with Jerry Greenfield. The Vermont brand is known for its unpredictable taste and open political positions.
Ben & Jerry’s is currently involved in the legal struggle with the parent company Unilever PLC. In the court proceedings filed in March, the company accused Unilever of launching CEO David Stever over disagreements about how the brand should be open on political issues.
