A war of words broke out between Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav during the ongoing assembly session in Lucknow.
On Monday, Adityanath targeted Akhilesh and his ally, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, while talking about the codeine syrup case in the state assembly. The UP CM termed the leaders as “do namune” – two samples.
“There are two types of people (‘Desh ke andar do namune hain’). One is sitting in Delhi and the other is in Lucknow. When there is any discussion in the country, they immediately flee the country and I think the same is happening with your ‘Babua’. He will also leave the country again for a trip to England and you people will keep shouting,” UP quoted ANI as saying.
Reacting to the CM’s remarks, SP president Akhilesh Yadav urged the leaders to maintain public decorum, after which a twisted narrative claimed that BJP members should not drag their party’s internal disputes into the public arena.
In a post on X, the SP chief said, “Self-acceptance! No one expected the Delhi-Lucknow dispute to escalate to this point. People holding constitutional posts should at least maintain some public decorum among themselves and not cross the lines of decency. BJP people should not drag out their party’s internal squabbles,” Yadav said at the junction. If someone gets offended somewhere.
Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister told the state assembly that there was no death due to codeine-based cough syrup in the state and claimed that the case was being strictly followed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
“There has been no death due to codeine cough syrup in Uttar Pradesh. Secondly, action will be taken under the NDPS Act in this case. The Uttar Pradesh government has won this case in court. Thirdly, in Uttar Pradesh, the biggest wholesaler who was first arrested by STF was given a license by the Samajwadi Party in 2016.”
Giving details of the action taken so far, Yogi Adityanath said the government has registered 79 cases, named 225 accused and arrested 78 people in connection with the matter. He added that 134 companies were raided.
The government has recorded 79 cases till date. 225 accused were named in these cases. So far, 78 accused have been arrested. 134 companies were raided,” he said.
The Chief Minister further said that Samajwadi Party links may emerge during the investigation.
“I think if you dig deeper into this matter, you will find that some leader or individual associated with the Samajwadi Party is ultimately involved. The Supreme Court has decided that this entire case should be prosecuted under the NDPS Act. The Uttar Pradesh government has fought and won this battle,” he said.
The chief minister issued a stern warning to the parties involved and said the government would ensure strict action against all the accused.

“No accused in this case will escape. And don’t worry, when the time comes, bulldozer strikes will also be prepared. So don’t complain,” he added.
