The state has another electronic waste (e-waste) recycling facility with increased capacity, bringing the number of e-waste processing plants to three. The latest facility has come up at the Industrial Development Plot in Anakkara, Palakkad with the capacity to recycle 39,360 metric tonnes of plastic per year, which is significantly more than the capacity of the existing plants. The Pollution Control Board approved the e-waste recycling plant run by Sithara Recyclers Private Limited in December last year.
The existing plants are at Peruvanthanam in Idukki district, operated by Sahya Solutions Group of Waste Management, with a capacity of 14,965 metric tons per annum, and FACT’s Kochi campus in Ambalamed, operated by Kerala Enviro Infrastructure Limited, with a capacity of 300 metric tons per annum. Both these power plants have EPR registration of the Central Pollution Control Board.
