Abhishek Sharma (Photo by Chris Hyde/Getty Images) Abhishek Sharma is one of India’s most explosive T20 batsmen at the moment, but there is one thing that even his mentor Yuvraj Singh can’t take away from him – his cricket bat.The former India all-rounder, who played a key role in guiding Abhishek’s career, recently shared a funny story about the young star’s affection for his bats. At an event where Abhishek was also present, Yuvraj laughingly said, “You can take anything away from Abhishek, but nobody can take away his bat. Ye mar jayega, pit jayega, ro dega par apna bat nahi dega — he will fight, even cry, but he won’t give up his bat.”

He took so many of mine but never parted with his,” Yuvraj quipped. The light-hearted revelation came just days after Abhishek made history in Brisbane. The 25-year-old became the fastest player in the world to reach 1,000 T20I runs in terms of balls faced, achieving the feat in just 528 deliveries during the fifth T20I against Australia at the Gabba.Although rain interrupted play after just 4.5 overs, Abhishek and Shubman Gill continued their sensational run as India’s new opening pair, putting on 52 runs before the interruption. Together, they amassed 188 runs across the series – the highest by any duo in a T20I series in Australia against the hosts – surpassing the 187 runs by South Africa’s Dewald Brevis and Tristan Stubbs earlier this year.Currently rated as the No.1 batsman in T20Is, Abhishek’s love for his bats is surely as ferocious as the way he smashes the ball – protective off the pitch, destructive on it.
