Yashasvi Jaiswal has revealed how Virat Kohli teased him by comparing him to Salman Khan’s iconic character in Tere Naam while batting against South Africa in the third ODI. Jaiswal scored his maiden ODI hundred during the match and Kohli was at the other end leading him.
Jaiswal was knocking quite slowly in the beginning and got into pace alongside Kohli as India won the match by nine wickets. Jaiswal credited Kohli for guiding him in his career and helping him overcome knocks, but this time he brought out the mischievous side of the star batsman.
During the series, Kohli made fun of Jaiswal’s hairstyle by comparing it to Salman from Tere Naam. The southpaw said Kohli kept singing the song lagan lag gayi re and dancing with him. Jaiswal said Kohli has a great sense of humour, but when it comes to taking the game seriously, it’s a matter of course.
“There is a song called ‘Lagan Lag Gayi Re’. So Kohli sang that song and danced to me. It was a fun conversation. Even before I went to bat, he was telling me things. His sense of humor is great and he is very funny. But when he is serious, the whole world knows the intensity with which he plays. I really enjoy playing with him,” he said. Jaiswal on Vimal Kumar’s YouTube channel.
Jaiswal was also shown a video of him working with Kohli in the nets ahead of his Test debut. The southpaw said they are still in discussions with Kohli on how he could improve in the game.
“Yes, absolutely. We talked a lot about things like – when the ball comes, what should my position be, what should I do to not get stuck. There was a lot of discussion.”
“Technically, how I can take my body towards the ball, how I can play on the front foot. There are still discussions about a lot of technical things. Even during normal matches, these discussions happen all the time – what can we do better. And especially in the dressing room, when they feel that yes, I can improve here, I can improve there, it helps a lot,” Jaiswal said.
Jaiswal was last in action during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Mumbai and could be back in the side for the ODI series against New Zealand.
