Mysuru MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar urged Home Minister G. Parameshwara to investigate the claims made in the video by alleged illegal immigrants from Bangladesh working in Bengaluru.
In a letter to the interior minister, Mr Wadiyar referred to a video posted on a social media platform showing three men claiming to be illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. In the MP’s letter, which pointed out that the men claimed to live and work in Bengaluru as watchmen and auto drivers, they were also seen inviting others to come to the city for work.
Mr. Wadiyar also referred to another video in which a woman suggested that people move to Bengaluru to avoid the crackdown on illegal immigrants in Assam.
“Such statements create a public impression that Karnataka is becoming a safe haven for illegal immigrants,” he said, urging Mr. Parameshwara to conduct a detailed and time-bound investigation into the claims made in the viral video and verify the immigration status of the three men.
He said the authorities should look into deficiencies in police verification, labor law enforcement, granting of transport licenses and employer’s liability.
The MP sought strict action under the law against all those found to be residing or working there illegally and called on the Home Secretary to apportion responsibility and take action against officials or employers found guilty of negligence and misconduct.
Mr Wadiyar also sought to clarify that “this is not a political issue. It is about public safety, internal security and the state’s responsibility to protect its citizens”.
