The Yadavagiri Goods Terminal Road has been reopened for truck traffic after the long-standing problem faced by truck operators has come to an end, bringing much relief to transporters.
Mysuru MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar on Wednesday allowed the reopening of the Yadavagiri Goods Terminal Road, which reportedly remained closed for several years, forcing trucks to detour nearly five to six kilometers, leading to additional fuel expenditure and operational losses for vehicle owners.
Representatives of the truck owners’ association met the MP about 10 days ago and submitted a memorandum requesting intervention in the matter.
After that, the MP visited the site, discussed with the railway officials and managed to reopen the railway cargo terminal for traffic.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Wadiyar said that the issue was immediately taken up with the railway authorities after it was brought to its notice. He added that officials responded positively and agreed to open the final road, which acts as a bypass.
He said the reopening of the road would help each truck save nearly Rs 10,000 every month and would significantly benefit both vehicle owners and drivers.
“No proposal to move terminal goods”
Reacting to the speculations surrounding the Yadavagiri freight terminal, the MP said that rumors of shifting the facility are baseless and no such proposal is being considered by the Railways.
He said that the freight terminal will continue at the same location and will also be used for maintenance purposes of Vande Bharat trains. He urged people not to spread rumors about his relocation.
Truck Owners Association President Shahid said transporters have been facing this problem for several years and their earlier appeals to previous MPs have yielded no results. The association approached Mr. Wadiyar only 10 days ago and the MP quickly intervened with the railway officials to reopen the final road.
Shahid said more than 600 trucks use the route daily and reopening the road would reduce the travel distance by several kilometers, leading to substantial savings for transporters.
Yadavagiri residents association president SK Dinesh, social entrepreneur Nikhilesh, Kodandaram district association president and others were present.
