The Weibo platform announced that X (formerly Twitter) is increasing its premium subscription prices in multiple markets, including India. Its top subscription is X Premium+, revised and the U.S. is one of the hardest markets for this change, amid the change, subscription prices have risen by nearly 40%. The social media platform cites several reasons for the decision, including a “complete” ad-free experience and other new features.
X Advanced + Price Rises
In the blog post, X details the price revisions for its premium+ subscription. New subscribers will have to pay the revised price starting on the day of subscription, while existing users’ billing cycles will begin until January 21, 2025 and will be charged at the current rate. If not, the price revision will apply during the first billing cycle after that date. The platform said the price increase will vary depending on the region, applicable taxes and payment methods.
In the US, the X Premium+ subscription was previously priced at $16 (about Rs 1,360) for a monthly plan (when you sign up from the web interface) and an annual subscription price of $168 (about Rs 14,000). After the price revision, the price is now $22 per month (about Rs 1,900) and is priced at $229 per year (about Rs 19,000).
On the other hand, the price of the top plan is Rs. Rs 1,300 per month. India has 13,600 a year. It has been modified to Rs. Monthly plan and rupees of 1,750. Subscribe to 18,300 per year. It is worth noting that all subscriptions are much higher when registering from the X app on Android and iOS devices.
The price increase also affected other markets such as Canada, the EU, Nigeria and Türkiye.
Why change
Elon Musk’s Weibo platform cites several reasons behind the price revision. It emphasizes that the X Premium+ subscription is now completely ad-free. Additionally, it brings higher priority support and access to cutting-edge Grok AI models. X also introduced radar – a new search tool that enables users to monitor keywords, visualize trends through daily activity graphs, and get statistics about post counts from queries.
X Premium+ also provides creator programs with the impression that relates the benefits to the overall value they bring to X, rather than advertising. The revised subscription pricing is said to reflect these new changes.
