Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) experienced a widespread outage on Monday, February 16, leaving hundreds of users unable to access the app or load feeds in several regions, according to Downdetector.
The most affected regions were the United States and several areas in India, where a large number of users reported problems accessing the platform, including difficulties logging in, sending tweets and refreshing timelines, with complaints on outage monitoring platforms increasing.
Even the UK has reported a large number of complaints about the issue, with over 10,000 users flagging problems on Downdetector.
X has suffered several outages over the past month, with one major breach reported on January 16 and another earlier incident on January 13. According to data from Downdetector, thousands of users registered complaints in both crashes. Major cities in the US and India were among the worst affected during the disruption.
How many users flagged issues?
According to Downdetector, which tracks outages by collecting status reports from many different sources, there were more than 40,000 reports of X problems in the United States as of 9:00 a.m. ET (1324 GMT).
Meanwhile, in India, more than 3,000 users have simultaneously flagged issues with the Elon Musk-owned social media platform, suggesting that a significant number of users are still facing issues accessing the service.
Most of these users are facing issues with the website, while a few others have raised complaints about the app. Some netizens are also having trouble accessing their resources or timelines on X, outage tracking data shows.
Netizens are tweeting about the outage
As news of the outage spread, many users took to multiple platforms, including X, to express their frustration.
“X is down. Let’s all get on Threads and talk about it,” wrote one user on X. Meanwhile, another person tweeted: “For those wondering, yes X/Twitter is down or having serious problems for many users. The spike in messages started at 7:15.”
One user also said: “X down again and again, Elon Musk and Nikita are going to do something.
While the service is now up and running for some users after a brief outage, others are still experiencing issues with the social media platform, with complaints of access, slow loading and difficulty posting or refreshing feeds still being reported.
