New Delhi, 1 June (PTI) India, will indicate its concerns about agriculture issues, fishing agreements, investment and dysfunctional appellate body of the WTO during an informal meeting of about 25 trade ministers in Paris.
The mini-minute meeting will take place on the outskirts of the OECD Ministerial Council (organization for economic cooperation and development) in Paris.
This meeting will be attended by commercial and industrial Minister Piyush Goyal. Since June 1, he has been on a five -day visit to France and Italy.
The official stated that India would raise his concerns about all the key questions of the WTO, including agriculture (finding a permanent solution to public possession of shares); Fisheries agreement, proposal to facilitate investment, reform in WTO and non -functional appellate body of the Geneva Forum.
India is against the move led by countries such as China to push through the proposal for investment facilitating the world business organization (WTO). The Chinese Group 128 countries promotes a proposal to facilitate investment in development (IFD).
Since 2009, the WTO dispute mechanism does not work correctly, as the US has stopped the appointment of members in the appeal body.
Meanwhile, the statement of the Ministry of the Commercial Ministry said that during their stay in Paris, Goyal would participate in the informal assembly of ministers of trade from countries, including the US, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Nigeria, Brazil and Israel.
“This key forum will participate in global counterparts on key multilateral business issues and articulate the perspectives and priorities of India,” the ministry said.
Goyal is also planned for a bilateral meeting with French ministers, including Eric Lombard, the Minister of Economics and Laurent Saint-Martin, the French Minister of Trade.
The discussion will focus on strengthening Indo-French economic partnership and exploring new ways to strengthen business and investment cooperation.
He will also encounter the highest leadership of the main French companies such as Vicat, Total Energies, L’Oreal, Renault, Valeo, EDF and Atr, in addition to participating in India France Business Round Table and India-France CEO forum.
As part of the visit, the Minister will organize a number of bilateral meetings at a high level with key international partners.
These include the British Trade and Trade Minister, Jonathan Reynolds; Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong; and Minister of Saudi trade, Majid bin Abdullah al-Kasabi.
Goyal will also participate with the Israeli Minister for Trade and Investment NIR Barkat; Minister Nigeria for Trade, Industry and Investment Jumoke Oduwole OON; Commissioner for Business and Economic Security Marcos Sefcovic; and Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Luis Iecker Vieira.
“These dialogues focus on the development of strategic economic cooperation and support for mutually beneficial partnerships across regions. They will also provide significant impulse for negotiations on India-EU FTA (free trade agreement),” he said.
India and the EU deal with the conclusion of an agreement on timely trade by July.
