Writers, education activists and other stakeholders have urged the state government to release the State Education Policy (SEP) report and submit it for public debate, after which it must be approved by the legislature.
A resolution to this effect was passed at a symposium on ‘Status of School Education in Karnataka’ jointly organized by Kannada Development Authority (KDA) and Policy Formulation Research Institute at Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday.
“The State Education Policy Commission submitted a report on the Education Policy to the government on August 8, 2025. It was expected that this important policy, which is in line with the aspirations of democracy and the constitution, will be published. This is because students, teachers, parents, guardians, educators and all citizens of the state who are involved in the implementation of education policy have the right to know the resolutions, proposals and recommendations.”
“The adoption, approval, implementation, revision, etc. of this SVP should not be solely the responsibility of political power or parties and bureaucracy. It is very important to formulate everyone’s consensus opinion through public discussion, dialogue, open criticism and formulate measures for their implementation. We must be careful not to repeat hasty, unilateral decisions, as happened during the implementation of the National Education Policy,” he further stated (2020).
Among those present were KDA chairman Purushottama Bilimale, SEP committee member Rajendra Chenni and educationist Niranjanaradhya VP.
