Delhi Capitals kicked off their preparations for the fourth edition of the Women’s Premier League with an intensive pre-season camp in Goa, with South African stars Marizanne Kapp and Lizelle Lee among the first overseas players to report.
Experienced all-rounder Kapp and wicketkeeper Lee, who recently played a key role in Hobart Hurricanes’ WBBL triumph, have joined the training sessions alongside a strong Indian contingent that includes Taniyaa Bhatia, Niki Prasad, Minna Mani, Mamatha Madiwala, Deeya Yadav and Nandni Sharma. England all-rounder Lucy Hamilton is also part of the early group in the camp.
The team is training under the watchful eye of head coach Jonathan Batty and the remaining Indian internationals will join the team after the conclusion of India’s ongoing series against Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
“It was great to get the team together and start working on our plans for the season,” said Batty. “We have some fresh faces in the squad so it will be exciting to see how they mesh with our philosophy. The weather in Goa is ideal for preparation. The rest of the players will join in a few days and we will start full training with the full squad before we head to Mumbai to start the season and push it game by game towards our goals.”
Delhi Capitals CEO Sunil Gupta highlighted the franchise’s focus on continuity and culture after three consecutive runner-up finishes. “From a franchise point of view, the players love coming back to Delhi Capitals; it’s like a family,” he said. “The pre-season camp is where the fun and serious work begins. It’s a great opportunity for the players to bond, especially with the new faces in the squad, and Goa is one of the best places to set the tone. Our consistency in past seasons has helped us reach three consecutive finals and the aim is to continue that momentum this year.”
Three-time finalists Delhi Capitals will begin their WPL 2026 campaign against two-time champions Mumbai Indians on January 10 in Navi Mumbai.
