The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 auction is scheduled to take place on Thursday 27 November. According to Sportstar, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has informed the five franchises that the auction will be a one-day auction and will be held at a hotel in Aerocity.
It was previously found that retention the window closes on November 5under which franchises must submit a list of retained players. The full list of players eligible for the auction will be released on November 7th.
In 2025, the five Women’s Premier League (WPL) franchises have retained a total of 71 players, leaving just 19 vacancies in the upcoming auction. Due to the retention limit of five players per team, expect major shakeups and intense bidding duels this season.
Under the revised rules, each team can retain a maximum of three restricted Indian players, two overseas players and two unrestricted Indians, while staying within the total limit of five.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also set the auction purse at Rs 15 crore. Player retention will be governed by specific limits — Rs 3.5 million for Player 1, Rs 2.5 million for Player 2, Rs 1.75 million for Player 3 and Rs 1 million for Player 4. If the fifth player stays, Rs 50 million will be deducted.
Adding a new twist, the Right to Match (RTM) card will be introduced for the first time. This feature allows franchises to buy out a released player by matching the highest bid made for them during the auction. However, teams that retain all five players will have Rs 9.25 crore deducted from their purse and will not be allowed to use any RTM cards.
Mumbai Indians (MI) enter the 2025 season as the defending champions having also lifted the Women’s Premier League (WPL) trophy in 2023. Both times they triumphed over Delhi Capitals (DC) in the final.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who won their first title in 2024, suffered disappointment this year and failed to qualify for the Eliminator in 2023 and 2025.
