The wholesale price inflation (WPI) returned to a positive zone after two months to 0.52% in August, because the prices of food articles and produced items increased, the government data showed on Monday (September 15, 2025).
Inflation based on WPI was (-) 0.58 and (-) 0.19% in July and June. In August last year it was 1.25%.
“The positive inflation rate in August 2025 is mainly due to the increase in the prices of food products, production, non -metallic articles, non -metallic mineral products and transport facilities, etc.,” said the Ministry of Industry.
According to WPI data, deflation in food cells was 3.06% in August, compared to deflation of 6.29% in July, with vegetables witnessing price increases. Deflation in vegetables was 14.18% in August, compared to 28.96% in July.
In the case of products produced, inflation was higher to 2.55% in August, compared to 2.05% in the previous month.
In August, fuel and energy recorded negative inflation or deflation 3.17%, compared to 2.43% in July.
India Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which takes into account retail inflation, maintained comparable policy rates to 5.5%last month.
After a decline in nine months of November 2024, retail inflation increased to 2.07%in August, which was powered by an increase in the price of kitchen objects such as vegetables, meat, fish and eggs, the data published last week showed.
