New Zealand will be without fast bowler Lockie Ferguson for their final group stage match at the ongoing T20 World Cup as he returns home to attend the birth of his first child with wife Emma. Ferguson’s parental leave was planned before the tournament, which was confirmed when the squad was announced in January. His absence leaves New Zealand considering their bowling options as they prepare for a crucial clash with Canada, where a win would guarantee progress to the Super Eight stage.
The Black Caps suffered their first defeat of the tournament against South Africa after recording wins over Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates. If New Zealand secure a win over Canada, their place in the Super Eight stage will be confirmed. However, a surprise loss would complicate their chances of qualification, even if it would not mean immediate elimination from the tournament.

Kyle Jamieson is the likely replacement for Ferguson against Canada, with Ish Sodhi also expected to be considered by the Blackcaps.
HOW WELL IS FERGUSON DOING?
Ferguson has taken four wickets in three matches so far for New Zealand at the T20 World Cup. He has an average of 27 and an economy ratio of 9.67.
“It’s an incredibly exciting time for Lockie and Emma and we’re delighted he’ll be home for such a special occasion,” New Zealand coach Walter said.
“We will not be replacing Lockie in the squad at this stage as the plan was for him to return to the Super 8 stage of the tournament. But our traveling reserves Ben Sears and Cole McConchie are ready to be called into the squad if we need them.”
The team faces further uncertainty as seamer Matt Henry may also leave during the tournament to attend the birth of his own child. Additionally, Michael Bracewell remains unavailable with a calf injury, but New Zealand can name an injury replacement if required. Traveling reserves Ben Sears and Cole McConchie are currently in India but have yet to be officially added to the main squad.
Going forward, if New Zealand qualify, their Super Eight matches are scheduled for February 22, 25 and 27.
