Nathan Lyon said that the final of the World Test World Championship is an important step in the Australian effort to become one of the largest test teams of all time. Australia is trying to keep its crown when they face South Africa in the final of Lord’s and from 11 June.
Aussies were the only party that did not lose the series throughout the WTC 2023-25 cycleHe won 4 out of 6 and finished second on the table by winning 67.54 % of the points available. Speaking with ICC, Lyon feels that it will be important for the party to be a festive piece this week. Spinner said the goal of the current party is to become a great Australian team and the WTC finals will be one step closer to it.

“It is important that we look at this week as a celebration,” he said. “We’ve done incredibly well, at home and gone in the last few years, and that’s something we should be really proud of as a team.”
“In my eyes, we are on our way to become a great Australian team. We are not there yet, I am well aware of it, but that is also our goal. This game is the next step up the ladder,” Lyon said.
Lyon expects hard competition from South Africa, which ended at the top of the ranking.
“Yes, we have already been here, but South Africa qualified the first during this World Championship,” Lyon continued.
“Over these two years, they did something really good to finish the top, so they deserve the home dressing room leading to this game.”
“It’s an international cricket. We expect an extremely heavy challenge and there will be a lot of problems, but we’ll have to be good enough to solve these problems.”
“Australia Bowling group is still trying to improve”
While the Australian bowling line-up is known for the TRIO PAT CUMMINS, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, Lyon finds himself as a vital track in the team and has 66 goals during the 2023-25 cycle. Spinner said that the bowling group is constantly trying to improve and leaves no stone heading for the finals.
“As a bowling group we are very proud of where we are currently,” Lyon said.
“But we don’t leave any stone without stones and we are still trying to improve as a bowling group.”
“I feel that each of us denies himself to improve.”
