Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) media and communication chairperson Sama Rammohan Reddy questioned the BJP’s opposition to Gandhi’s name and claimed that only the British thought of erasing Gandhi’s legacy and the BJP is now following the same path.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, he asked why BJP leaders harbored such animosity towards Mahatma Gandhi that the scheme named after him was being changed. The BJP’s intention is not only to remove Gandhi’s name from social programmes, but also to remove them, he claimed.
Highlighting the job guarantee issues, he said that Telangana has 53 thousand job card holders under the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) scheme and is entitled to 53 lakh working days. However, he alleged that the Center had reduced the allocation from 12 million mandays last year to just 6.5 million, causing grave injustice to the state.
“Under the guarantee of 100 days of work, this reduction means only about 12 days of work per person in Telangana. Under the Modi government’s new law promising 125 days of guaranteed work, Telangana would be able to provide only 10 days of work,” he said. He said that under the new law, the Center has shifted 40% of the financial burden to the state, effectively absolving itself of responsibility.
He warned that the Congress would expose the BJP’s “true colours” and bring its alleged anti-people policies into the public domain.
