The highly anticipated development of the Manachira-Velimadukunnun road will probably start soon, as the public work department has completed the offer for works. The department plans to conclude a contract with Midland projects based in Malappuram within two weeks and the work will be started shortly after.
In the first phase, it is a plan to develop a section from the intersection of Pavamani Road and Bank Road in Machira to the intersection of Malapparamba, where the road meets NH-66. The section 5.32 km develops at the price of CRORE 80 GBP. The road will be 8.5 meters wide, with a median two meters in the middle and on both sides of two meters. In addition, it will be on both sides for gardening space for the wide side. Drainage and cable pipes, both in the width of one meter, run under the pavement. About 350 street headlamps will be installed at the mean value.
As part of the project Improvement of the City Road, the section Malapparamba – Machira is developing. Gaining land for the project is mostly complete, except for a few small land that remains in the dispute.
The project is the result of long-term public demand and almost 15 years of persistent efforts for the Road Action Committee Manachira-Velimadukunnnu, headed by historian MGS Narayanan, who recently died.
The development of the Manachira – Malapparamba section is expected to be completed at the beginning of 2026. However, the remaining part of Malapparamba to Great Grandukunn is to be developed by the Indian National Highway Office because it is part of the National Highway 766 (Kozhikode – Kollegal).
