Work on the transition to automatic signaling along the Ernakulam-Shoranur section, the busiest railway corridor in the kerala, is ready to obtain dynamics with Kerala Rail Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL) and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a common enterprise for various railway projects section. The joint venture has performed the design work of the project since the contract was commissioned in June.
Work on the installation of the automatic signal system, the first in Kerala, at 102.7 km Ernaculam Junction-Vallathol Nagar Sector for 156.47 GBP is expected to be completed in 1-1.5 years, which increases the load capacity along over 130%. This would allow Southern Railway to work over twice the number of trains along this Ghat route, where the maximum trains speed is now 80 km per hour. In the rest of the state, trains work at maximum speed of 100-110 km / h.
Three times the capacity
In fact, switching to an automatic signaling system from the existing absolute block signal system technically increases the capacity of the track triple. Automatic signals will be installed every kilometer, allowing trains to pass one by one. In the current “absolute block signaling system”, the end train gets a green signal only if the train in front of it reaches another station, which should be at least seven kilometers away. With the introduction of automatic signaling, three trains will be able to pass through this section. Currently, only one train can pass between two stations, the railway sources said.
Speed to rise to 90 km / h
This expansion Ghat represents the highest number of curves and gradients in the railway lines in Kerala, making it difficult to operate trains at an uniform speed of 110 km throughout the state. Railways plan to increase the maximum speed of trains along the section from the current 80 km / h to 90 km / HV first phase.
The railways decided to increase the speed of trains between Shoranur and Kannur to 130 km / h from the current 110 km / HV next phase. It plans to increase the sectional speed of trains from Kannar to Mangalur and Kollam on Thiruvananthapuram to 130 km / HV next phase.
