More than 90% of the work at Porunai Museum has been completed, District Collector R. Sukumar said.
The 54,000 sq ft Porunai Museum is being set up near Reddiyarpatti Hill at a cost of ₹ 56.57 crore on 13 acres of land to tell the world about the ancient civilization of the Tamils. It is expected to be ready for inauguration before Pongal. The artefacts found at the Aditchanallur, Korkai and Sivakalai excavations will be exhibited in the premises.
While the artefacts found at Aditchanallur will be displayed in the 16,486 sq ft wing, the Korkai artefacts will be in the 17,429 sq ft building. The Sivakalai artefacts will be displayed in a building constructed with 8,991 sq.ft.
In addition, an administrative building, a park with decorative lights, a pond, a fountain, an amphitheater and so on were created in the area. Battery cars will be operated for the movement of senior citizens in the museum area.
“More than 90% of the work at the Porunai Museum has been completed and the artefact display cases are being improved. So the museum will be officially inaugurated soon,” said Dr. Sukumar.
