On Saturday, work began on Saturday to lay a four-lane bypass between the villages of the Tajpura and Veppur on Arcot-Villupuram High Road.
State motorway officials said the bypass is aimed at providing an alternative route for passengers and heavy vehicles for a long distance to achieve the Chennai-Bengalur motorway in Vepur’s village much faster.
“The ambulance is difficult to navigate the narrow sections in Arcot, as the trucks also use these roads to reach the highway. The new bypass will alleviate traffic in the city,” said B. Vinod, a motorist.
Motorists will also facilitate the availability of the Taluk Hospital in Walaiah, the new campus Christian Medical College and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. In ranipette and key cities like Melvisharam and Vellore, bypassing the overloaded Arcot Town.

Founded as part of the comprehensive development program of road infrastructure 2024-25, 35-Crore work includes 10 meters wide, median 1.2 meters wide and sidewalks.
“It is estimated that more than 9,000 vehicles go through Arcot on the industrial corridors of Chennai and Bengaluru.
Motorway officials said the section would connect three key sections, including Krishnagiri-Ranipet High Road and Arcot-Kannamangalam High Road.
