Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday (May 14, 2026) announced several austerity measures for government officials and the general public.
Ms Gupta said government employees could work from home two days a week. She also said private companies would be advised to work from home for two days a week. “We will ask all the big companies personally,” the Delhi Chief Minister added.
“Every Monday will be ‘Metro Day’. All of us ministers and senior officers, wherever possible, will use metro to come to office and go,” Ms Gupta said.
Ms. Gupta also said, “We have separated the office timings so there will be less traffic.” Official timings have been changed to 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM for Delhi Government
“We have also directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to function from 8.30 am to 5 pm,” the Delhi director said.
“We will try to make 50% of the meetings online. We will do video conferencing wherever possible,” Gupta said.
She said, “We are also asking colleges and universities in Delhi to conduct non-practical classes, guest lectures and administrative meetings in online mode. Our education department will personally talk to the universities to ensure this.”
“No government minister or official of Delhi will go on any official foreign visit for the next year starting tomorrow,” the Delhi CM said.
Ms Gupta said: “We have canceled some of our programs of officials and ministers. We will also avoid big public events and conferences for the next three months.”
