In interviews on increasing the maximum working hours of employees in private companies from the current nine to 10 hours a day, the Maharashta Government is revised by the Maharashtra Trades and Facilities (regulation and service conditions) of 2017.
The aim of the proposal is to make some fundamental changes in the law that regulate working hours for employees in shops, hotels and entertainment points, including, among other things, Hindustan Times (HT) said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs submitted a proposal during the meeting of the State Cabinet held on Tuesday. While the matter was discussed, HT -familiar resources said HT said the cabinet seemed clearer regarding the proposed changes.
What are the proposed changes?
The Ministry of Labor plans to make approximately five major changes in legislation in 2017, the most important of which will be an increase in working hours.
“No adult worker will be required or allowed to work in any device for more than 10 hours per day,” as stated in the proposed change in Section 12 of the Act.
In addition, the proposal suggests that adults can only work for six hours in the section only if they are given a half -hour break. Currently, the maximum section that an employee can work continuously is limited to five hours.
The department also recommended to increase the permissible overtime limit for employees of 125 to 144 hours for three months. At present, employees can work up to 10.5 hours (including overtime), but the new proposal is trying to extend this limit to 12 hours. In the case of urgent work, the current daily limit of 12 hours can be completely discarded, setting no maximum limit for working hours.
Who do these changes relate to?
If the proposed changes are accepted, they will only apply to companies employing 20 or more employees. The current rules apply to facilities that have 10 or more employees.
“Ministers wanted more clarity for the provisions and their impact, and therefore the decision was suspended today,” HT said on a condition of anonymity. Officials stated that the proposal was submitted in the cabinet after the long -term demand of the sector.
Debate about long working hours
In January of this year, President Larsen & Toubro (L&T) SN Subrahmanyan caused an online debate by defending a 90 -hour working week and suggested that employees should work on weekends, including Sundays.
This statement of the industry head again set fire to the debate on the balance between working and private life that surrounded the founder of Infosys Narayan Murty last year of 70 hours of working week.
Since more leaders come to defend longer working hours, they are growing concerns about burnout, declining mental health and sustainability of such expectations.
Elista, a brand of consumers and a brand of intelligent accessories, said before “productivity is powered by a focus and efficiency, not long hours. Reworking leads to burnout, reduced creativity and decreasing quality of work.”
