A group of 20 workers, mostly flower growers from the Palla Venkanna Flower Nursery in Kadiyam, East Godavari district, toiled for four days to create the 77th Republic Day salute with thousands of plants.
Made up of 20,000 plant species namely – Alternanthera photoperiods, Green, Yellow, Red and Black Oxipolio plant, Mondo Grass and Eugenia Dwarf, their creation features motifs of national flag, Ashoka Chakra and Republic Day letters, each depicted with the respective plant species of the respective colour. The end result was a connoisseur’s delight.
The chairperson of Palla Venkanna Palla Satyanarayana Murthy (Sattibabu) Nursery, established in 1953 on the banks of the Godavari River, told The Hindu, “The aim of the salute is to show how best we can be a part of the Republic Day celebrations. The different types of plants used in this salute send out the message of unity in diversity. We are excited to take it out.”
Visitors can view the salute at the Palla Venkanna Nursery School.
