Women-led solar power plant inaugurated in Telangana’s Khammam; Estimated monthly income ₹4.5-5000
Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Wednesday (May 27, 2026) inaugurated a solar power plant at Venkatapuram village, Errupalem mandal, Khammam district.
In a significant step towards making women active partners in Telangana’s clean energy transition, a ₹3 crore solar power plant run by women self-help groups (SHGs) was inaugurated at Venkatapuram village in Errupalem mandal of Khammam district on Wednesday (May 27, 2026).
Deputy Chief Minister and Power Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka at the launch ceremony termed the launch of the 1 MW solar power plant under the Indira Mahila Shakti program as a historic step towards economic empowerment of women.
₹ 14,000 to ₹ 15,000 per day income for SHG women
Stating that this was the first initiative of its kind in the country, Mr. Vikramarka said the government had launched solar energy projects through women’s SHGs to increase their income and promote financial self-sufficiency. The solar power plant would generate an income of ₹ 14,000 to ₹ 15,000 per day for the women’s SHG, which would be around ₹ 4.5 to 5 lakh per month.
Lands and subsidies
The government provided not only land but also subsidies for these projects. Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) have been signed to ensure that DISCOMs purchase the electricity generated, he added.
Solar power plants in all districts
He said the government intends to set up similar solar power plants in every district to generate 20,000 MW of solar power in the state by 2030.
He pointed out that the demand for electricity in the state has increased significantly compared to last year. The peak demand, which was 15,000 MW in 2023-24, has now increased to 18,485 MW. Despite this surge, uninterrupted power is maintained through advanced planning, he claimed. Minister for Panchayat Raj, Women and Child Welfare D. Anasuya Seethakka and others were present.
