
A nation can achieve development only when women are empowered, said NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha.
Participating in a program organized on the occasion of International Women’s Day in Vijayawada on Sunday, the District Collector said that women play a crucial role in the economic empowerment of the district, state and nation. He pointed out that the RISE center set up in the district was to develop the talent of rural women and transform them into entrepreneurs. Later, Chairman of the 20-Point Program Implementation Committee Lanka Dinakar said that as part of a nationwide initiative, the Union government is aiming to create 3 million ‘Lakhpati Didis’. There are already nearly 18 million ‘Lakhpati Didis’ in Andhra Pradesh and the aim is to create another 30 million over the next two years, he said.
Joint Collector S. Ilakkiya recalled that she lost both her parents at a young age and was able to reach her current position only because of the support provided by her wife. She encouraged women to overcome difficulties and strive for higher positions.
