
A 42-year-old woman was murdered outside her house in Neduvasal West village of the district on Sunday when she was resisting an accused from an alleged attempt to kidnap her daughter after she rejected a marriage proposal.
Police have detained four persons, including a BJP functionary, for investigation in connection with the murder of a woman identified as S. Kaliyamal of Neduvasal West village. One of the accused, S. Vivin (33), a native of Melaripakkam in Chengalpattu district, is the brother of Vijayalakshmi, the second wife of Kaliyamal’s husband Suresh.
Police said Vivin insisted on marrying Kaliyamal’s second daughter. He and several others reached Kaliyammala’s house by car in the early hours and allegedly tried to kidnap her daughter. When she resisted them, Vivin allegedly attacked her with a sword killing her on the spot and fled the scene in a vehicle. Kaliyammalu’s body was sent to Pudukottai Government Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.
Acting on information, Vivin and three others were later caught by the police. According to the police, Vivin is the district president of the party’s Chengalpattu South district unorganized workers’ wing of the BJP. The Vadakadu police is investigating the case.
