Woman kills two children, tries to kill herself after husband’s death in Kolar

A 22-year-old woman allegedly suffocated her two young children on Wednesday and later tried to end her life in a village in Kolář district, reportedly unable to cope with the trauma of her husband’s recent death on Wednesday.

The incident was reported from Alangur village in Mulbagal taluk. The woman, identified as Bujjamma, a native of Andhra Pradesh, allegedly killed her daughter Saraswathi (3) and her one-year-old daughter Hemashri before attempting to end her own life. Alert neighbors intervened and saved the woman. He is currently undergoing treatment.

According to the police, Bujjamma and her husband Babu, originally from Vinayakapuram in Andhra Pradesh, were working in a mango orchard in Alanguru last year. Babu died in an accident on May 10, after which Bujjamma is said to have fallen into severe depression.

Investigators suspect that the woman took the extreme step due to emotional distress caused by her husband’s death. A case has been registered at Nangali police station and further investigation is underway.
