The 62 -year -old woman was fatally knocked down by the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), while on Tuesday she crossed the road before the secretariat.
The deceased, identified as Geetha of Peyad, tried to cross the road with his husband Pradeep after his performance from the same bus. While the couple crossed the way to go to the side of the general hospital, the bus moved forward and crossed through Geetha.
Despite the immediate efforts of the police rush her to the hospital, Geetha succumbed to her injury.
According to police, the driver moved the bus forward without noticing that the couple was in front of the bus.
The need for strict monitoring
The incident again brought a concentration on the question of the rash and negligence of public transport drivers in the city. Although fatal accidents near the secretariat are relatively rare, the accident underlines the urgent need for stricter tracking of bus operations along busy courses in the capital.
The city often witnessed cases of KSRTC buses that refused to stop at the designated bays, stopped random, and forced the passengers to run behind them, which often led to dangerous situations, especially in vulnerable areas such as East Fort.
A representative of the Police Commissioner (law and order, operation-1) T. Farash said that a special vigilance would be forced to ensure that the buses only stopped at the specified stops and drivers follow the safe driving practices. It would also be spent to support the lane discipline between public transport vehicles, he added.
However, officials pointed to calls to maintain a smooth traffic flow along MG Road, especially during frequent demonstrations before the secretariat. Such protests often lead to blocking one side of the road and forcing vehicles from both directions to go through a single stripe.
