On February 6, a team of the Commissioner’s Task Force, West Zone, along with the SR Nagar police, found a woman in possession of marijuana worth Rs 5.7 lakh.
The accused has been identified as Rinita Raita, 30, a farmer from Kesariguda village in Odisha’s Gajapati district.
Police said he acted like a trafficker. During the raid, the police seized 11.4 kg of dry marijuana and a mobile phone.
According to police, the woman told investigators that her family was facing financial hardship as her husband worked as a daily wage farmer and her own income from construction work was insufficient.
She reportedly came in contact with her cousin Maniel Dalabehera of Patangapadar village in Odisha, who is suspected to be involved in the sale of marijuana in Hyderabad and Rangareddy.
Police said she contacted him last week while looking for work, after which he allegedly asked her to accompany him to Hyderabad to sell contraband. Acting on specific information, the Task Force team detained her and handed her over to the SR Nagar police for further action.
