Woman, girlfriend in police custody accused of abandoning newborn

Maradu police have taken into custody the mother of a newborn boy who was found abandoned at a roadside canteen in Maradu on Sunday (June 28), along with her friend who initially claimed to have discovered the child.

According to police sources, the child’s mother, a cancer patient residing in Kundannur, had reportedly decided to abandon the child due to financial and health problems. The police tracked down the woman after questioning the young man who alerted them to the child.

The child, believed to be just a few hours old, was rescued by the police and taken to Ernakulam General Hospital.
