A 47-year-old woman from Vinay Nagar Colony in Saidabad was duped of ₹3,38,200 after a UK-based man approached her with a fabricated marriage proposal. Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police have registered a case.
Investigators said the woman was contacted by a person who identified himself as Hirad Ahmed and claimed to be a doctor in the United Kingdom. He allegedly won her trust through WhatsApp calls, messages and video chats before convincing her to open two new bank accounts and get two new SIM cards. She was then instructed to send the passbooks and ATM cards to an alleged UK affairs office in New Delhi.
Police said the accused and his associates later sent forged visas and marriage-related documents and repeatedly demanded payment for visa fees, delay fees, luggage problems, hotel stays, flight problems and alleged medical emergencies. Cops said she transferred the money because she believed the claims, but after losing contact with him and receiving suspicious calls from multiple numbers, she realized she had been scammed and sought police help.
Cybercrime complaints can be filed through helpline 1930 or at cybercrime.gov.in. Emergency help is available at 8712665171. Officials have also urged residents to monitor Cyber Crimes Hyderabad digital platforms for regular awareness updates.
