
The woman was accused of allegedly trying to smuggle banned items into the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail and was nabbed during a routine security check on Monday.
According to the complaint filed by the jail authorities, on March 9 at around 1 pm, a female employee of the Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF) was deputed to conduct a routine search and physical check on female visitors.
During the inspection, a woman identified as Anusha arrived to meet a convicted prisoner, UTP No. 5273/2025, Bharat Akiraa. While checking her belongings, the security personnel noticed that Anusha had allegedly hidden some prohibited items inside her inner wear in violation of prison rules.
The items were confiscated along with the visitor’s pass and a report was submitted to senior prison officials. The materials were later verified in the presence of Assistant Superintendent BR Andani.
Authorities said the woman tried to smuggle prohibited items, suspected to be ganja, into the prison premises by misleading security personnel. Based on the complaint, a case under Section 42 of the Karnataka Prisons (Amendment) Act, 2022 and other relevant provisions was registered against Anush and the inmate.
Prison staff detained
In another incident, a prison employee was reportedly detained while attempting to carry prohibited items and cash into the Central Prison during a routine security check on March 9. According to jail authorities, the incident took place around 6:15 pm when a staff member, identified as Prakash Gowda, arrived for duty in the ‘C’ barracks area.
During a physical check conducted by security personnel, officials recovered ₹1,610 in cash and two suspicious packages wrapped in black tape from his possession.
The matter has been reported to senior officers and further legal action is being taken for breaching prison rules and attempting to smuggle prohibited items into the prison.
