Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren accompanied by his wife – MLA Kalpana Soren attended the Sarhul festival in Ranchi on Saturday (March 21, 2026).
The Chief Minister, who participated in the festival organized on the occasion of Sarhul Nature Festival, performed prayers and rituals as per traditional customs and prayed for the welfare of all the people of Jharkhand.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Soren said that today is a day full of enthusiasm and jubilation.
“This is a significant event for the tribal community. Every year we have gathered at these premises; we will continue to visit in the future and we will continue to meet with all of you,” Mr Soren said.
The chief minister noted that just as their forefathers entrusted them with the responsibility of upholding rich traditions — such as the Sarhul festival — “We will transfer the responsibility of preserving these traditions to the shoulders of future generations,” he asserted.
Mr. Soren emphasized that there is no greater form of worship than the worship of nature and that all things are created in nature and ultimately merge into nature.
The Chief Minister claimed that if nature did not exist, there would be no living beings in this world – neither humans nor animals.
He further said that the entire system was created and established by nature and the tribal community has unwavering faith in this natural order.
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) President Mr. Soren questioned the festive joy of the Sarhul festival held at the Tribal College Hostel Campus – playing the mandar (traditional drum).
“It is essential for all of us to connect with nature, because our very existence depends on the safety and protection of nature. In today’s materialistic age, we live life amidst constant hustle and bustle. Our ancestors, with foresight and careful planning, created certain systems – rooted in a long-term vision – that allowed us to gather under one tree, the roof of Mr. Soren, the shade.” he said.
He added: “We must remain determined to uphold and uphold these traditions. Let us all resolve to protect nature while protecting our own lives.”
Mr. Soren noted that it was not only people who rejoiced, but nature itself.
“Undoubtedly, we should be proud to be believers in a system – a way of life – from which all life originates,” he said.
