The captain of the Indian Astronaut Group Shaubhanshu Shukla entered the International Space Station (ISS) as part of the Axiom-4 mission and called the historical milestone on its space path. Upon his arrival, Shukla shared his excitement and gratitude in a sincere message from Orbit.
“It was a great ride, it was great and I was looking forward to coming to space,” Shukla said. “You know, that’s what to look forward to, but when I entered the international space station and met this crew, I just felt so welcome as if you literally opened a door like your house door.”
Shukla appreciated the crew on board the ISS for their hospitality and said his expectations had already been exceeded.
“It was fantastic. Now I feel even better. Any expectations that I came here have been overcome – of course, that’s a big part – but also you. So thank you very much,” he said.
He also expressed optimism about the days at the Space Station. “I think it’s fantastic, it’s amazing and I’m very sure that the next 14 days will be amazing – developing science and research and cooperation,” he added.
Shukla in Hindi also expressed gratitude and pride when he addressed the nation from space. “Little news for my beloved colleagues Indy – with your love and blessing I have achieved an international space station,” he said. “It might look easy, but our heads feel a little hard, even though it doesn’t matter. We’ll get used to it in a few days.”
Shukla and his team set out to space on board the SpaceX spacecraft, driven by Falcon 9, from Nasa’s Kennedy Space Centers in Florida on Wednesday. The crew is ready to spend 14 days aboard an international space station where scientific experiments in microgravity will perform.
This mission represents a historical milestone because Shukla becomes only the second Indian, who travels to space after Rchessh Sharm, and the first to achieve the ISS in nearly four decades. Sharma spent eight days in orbit aboard the Salyut-7 Soviet Union in 1984.
Before lifting Shukl, he expressed his wish to motivate the missions of the young mind, like Sharma’s Spaceflight inspired the earlier generation.
