With the advent of the new crop season, Green Cardamom prices show a positive trend.

At the evening auction organized by IDUKKI Mahila Cardamom Producer Company Limited (IMCPC) arrived 25,473 kg of cardamom. The average cited price was 2 642.73 GBP per kg and a maximum price of 3 212 GBP per kg.
In the morning auction of the companies held by Spice More Trading Company was the average price of 2,553,40 kg, while the maximum cited price was 3,050 GBP. 36,903 kg of cardamom, which arrived, was sold 36,554 kg.
According to Cardamom suppliers, as this year in the areas of cardamom cultivation was accepted by a favorable summer rain, the new crop has already begun to come to the market. “Farmers have already started the first harvest, but the size and weight of the capsules are very low, with only 30 to 40 kg to the market. But the capsule color is good,” said albin Joseph, cardamom dealer in Idukki.
Joshy Joseph, a public contact officer (for) Spice More Trading Company at Kumily, said that cardamom prices witnessed a significant increase in spice spice markets on Thursday and increased by 150 to 170 kg compared to the previous week. “Increase in prices can be attributed to the poor arrival of spices, which led to a lack of offer. However, this ascending trend has provided positive prospects because domestic buyers have shown increased interest in buying commodity.
Illness, rain
Tents Pothen, chairman of the Cardamom Planters Federation, said farmers expect better crops this year. “The extensive disease of rot and cluster rot in cardamom plants represent a threat to the production of cardamom. Farmers expect good crop in the period of August to December.” Mr. Pothen, however, said that diseases and heavy rain create an alarming situation in areas where cardamom was grown.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, 732,12 hectares of cardamom plantations were destroyed in heavy winds and heavy rain in the district from 24 to 10 July. “A total of 4 185 farmers were affected. The total estimated loss is 512.49 Lakh,” says the official.
