Harmanpreet Kaur said that with the T20 World Cup scheduled for next year, it is the right time to give youngsters a fair chance. India recently called up left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma and 17-year-old left-arm batsman G Kamalini for the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka starting on December 21 in Visakhapatnam.
Indian women cricketers will be playing a significant amount of T20 cricket over the next few months, with several players also playing in the Women’s Premier League. Harmanpreet added that India wants to take a free and fearless approach to preparations for the T20 World Cup in England.

“Our ultimate goal is the next T20 World Cup in the next six months and before that we want to play a lot of T20 cricket,” Harmanpreet said at the pre-match press conference.
“From tomorrow it starts and some new players in the team, it’s the right time to give them a fair chance to understand how we have to go in the next World Cup. So yes, it’s a very important series for all of us and we just want to play with a free mind and play the way we’ve been playing T20 cricket for the last couple of years,” said Harmanpreet.
WE WILL GIVE IT THE BEST
Earlier in November, Harmanpreet led India to their first ICC title by winning the Women’s World Cup. Since then, she has been busy endorsing and signing contracts with various brands. Harmanpreet said that after returning to cricket after the break, India will look to start on a winning note and give their best.
“It was hectic (after winning the World Cup in ODIs) but after every World Cup I want schedules like that so I don’t mind. But yes, we are looking forward to this series, we have been waiting for a month to go on the field because at the end of the day we enjoy it on the field.”
“So we start our first match tomorrow, we are really looking forward to it. It’s a very important series for us and hopefully we all give our best,” added Harmanpreet.
India have never won the Women’s T20 World Cup, with their best performance coming in 2020 when they finished runners-up after losing to Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
