Jannik Sinner served it wide for the match. Novak Djokovic has so far threw himself on the right side that at a time when the Italian completed him with a gentle Forehad down, Djokovic was no longer in court. Physically or symbolically. The commentator in the air captured him with theatrical finality: “Djokovic leaves the court empty, leaves the podium for the sinner. It is time to take a new dawn.”
After an hour and 55 minutes at Court, Djokovic, a man who once bent time for his will, he looked less like an irrelevant warrior, and rather as a legend in a place in the game that began to move on. Lost 3-6, 3-6, 4-6. Sinner did djokovic what 30 -year -old djokovic once did to all others
The return “Nole, Nole” caused defiantly when he conjured up rare flashes of brilliance. His son Stefan watched from the stands, imitated shots as if he were practicing the next generation’s answers to the problems his father once solved in real time. But this Friday none of this worked.
It seemed to me that he was watching the once big movie titanium, the king of the cash desk of another era, stuck under the hard look of a modern set. The voice still commands, the presence is still appearing – but the pace has moved. Spotlight moved. The script now belongs to the younger stars. Sinner and Alcaraz: They’re not only inviting him. They’re going through him.
The man whose career was created in defiance whose strength was never only in his legs, but in stubborn rejection, finally seemed to give up. His body gave up. His mind gave up. Gave up.
The semifinals slipped from his grip. And in the calm that followed, the sound of the arrival of time was deafening.

When Novak Djokovic has lost to Carlos Alcaz in Wimbledon and the US Open Finals in the last two years, he went down. But on Friday, in the semifinals, there was no fight.
For two decades, Djokovic has found answers where no one existed – a solution of puzzles under pressure, surviving times, opponents, even a crowd. But this time, when time came knocking, there were few answers left.
A 38 -year -old man recognized it. “He plays the best of five, especially this year, was a physically real struggle for me. The longer the tournament is, the worse the condition. I have achieved the semifinals of every strange this year. I have to play sinner or Alcaraz. These guys are fit, young, sharp.
“This is what it is. It’s one of those things you have to accept and accept in some way. To deal with reality as it is and try to get the best out of it.”
It was painful to watch the 24-time Grand Slam Champion, a sport gladiator, unable to convene old magic. He could not chase these unlikely yields, could not cause those desperate dashes across the Court Center. He gave up points in the second ensemble – and his silence began to feel like an apology of the crowd that still wanted more.
Undying gravel, is it finally disappearing?
Of course, social media has become nostalgic. The clips have appeared since 2022, when Djokovic watched a sinner with two sets they loved in the quarterfinals – and returned to win at five. Then Sinner was 10. Seed. Djokovic was still time -resistant.
If Djokovic taught something to tennis fans, it’s this: never count it. When the chances are stacked against him when the opponent is two set when the crowd turns – that’s when it rises.
Ask Stefanos Tsitsipas, which led 7-6, 6-2 in the final of the French Open 2021. The work was still not finished.
But this was 2025 and Djokovic’s legs were absorbed more than they could give.
Since Wednesday, when he slipped in the last game of his quarterfinals against Flaviio Cobolli, doubts persisted. He skipped his planned on Thursday and at the time the semifinals began, the inscriptions were visible. When he was wide, he tried to push away. The left thigh was clearly bothering him. He was treated after the second set.
For a short time, vintage djokovic was blinking back to life. He unleashed a rush of the winners on the forehand, moved with urgency, and in the third set attacked the lead 3-0.
There was a flashing hope.
But he disappeared just as quickly. Errors returned. The body could not keep the pace. Sinner won six of the next seven games to achieve his first Wimbledon final – and created an oral water match with Alcaraz, repeating last month French Open Classic.
Old warning now seems to be dated
For Djokovic, the road looks ahead long and rough. He did not win Major since the US Open in 2023. Last year, Wimbledon did not reach the final of the Slam.
Yet he refuses to bow.
After shifting the boundary of tennis for years, he is willing to try his body and time again.
“Hopefully this is not my last match at Court Center. I do not plan to complete my Wimbledon career today. I plan to return at least once again,” he said.
Djokovic became philosophical, as if he had outlined his inner struggle loud and tried to understand it better.
“I got so much from God and my life in my career that it would be a service I would complain about. I was so fit so long and had an incredible career. I’m just trying to make the most of what I left.”
The old warning has always rang: never counting Djokovic. But that now sounds dated.
