For Amanda Anisim, Wimbledon 2025 was nothing but a fairy tale. The 23 -year -old American star booked its place in the final of the All England Club after a stunning groin victory over the world no.
But two years ago, things for Anisim looked very different. In May 2023 she took an indefinite break from tennis to focus on her mental health and postpone the missile for several months. Time away saw how she dropped out of the top 400 in the WTA rankings.
Anisim’s remembered this difficult period and remembered how many of them had written to her, and said she would never return to the top if she had left the game too long.
“I think it’s different for everyone. It turns out to be possible. I think it’s really strange news I could show. When I took a break, many people said,” You would never get it to the top if you take so much time from the game. “It was a little hard to spend,” Anisimova said at a press conference after defeating Sabalenek.
“Because I wanted to go back and achieve a lot and win one day Grand Slam. I just could prove that you can go back to the top if you prefer … that was incredibly strange to me. That means a lot,” Anisimova added.
Gold Chance for Anisimova
Anisimova first attracted global attention in 2019, when it reached the semi -final of the French Open. Then only 17, stunned Aryna Sabalenko and World No. 3 Simona Halep, to become the youngest semifinalist in Roland Garros in more than ten years.
In the semifinals she even set off the eventual champion Ash Barty before she fell into three sets. It was a breakthrough moment that indicated a clear future – but over time, Anisim’s disappeared from the reflector.
Now, the first performance in Wimbledon, there was a hope of her return to the top. With her Semifinal victory over SabalenkoAnisimova broke into the TOP 10 WTA rankings, landed on No. 7. If she defeated IgA Swiatek in the finals, she could rise to 5 years.
Along the way of Anisimov, she also created history – she became the youngest American woman who achieved the final of Wimbledon singles by Serena Williams in 2004.
