
American 10. Ben Shelton seed and Russian seventh Mirra Andreev semen secured their seats in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon with impressive shows in the relevant rounds of 16 matches on Monday 7th July.

Shelton fought around the Italian Lorenzo Sonego At a four-seater meeting he won 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (1), 7-5 to reach his first quarterfinal Wimbledon. The 22-year-old returned strongly after dropping the first set and gradually promoting control with his aggressive basic game and a strong portion. The win refers to Shelton’s third direct victory over Sonego this year, after he also defeated Italian at the Australian Open and the French Open.
The victory also saw that Shelton surpassed the best career of his father and contemporary coach, Bryan Shelton, who reached the last 16 in 1994 before lost five hundred Christian Bergstrom. The younger Shelton, who has already reached the Grand Slam semifinals in the US and Australian Open, gave a composite performance to break new land on the grass.
On the side of the women, 18-year-old Andreeva created a commanding display that defeated the American 10. Emma Navarro 6-2, 6-3 in Central Court, with tennis legend Roger Federer watched from the royal box. Thanks to victory, Andreeva is the youngest player who achieved Wimbledon’s quarterfinals by Maria Sharap in 2005.
Andreeva dominated her first serving and strong underground trees, and did not fit a single point for her first serving in the opening set. Navarro tried to mount the resistance in the second, forcing some points of the turning point, but Andreeva kept calm and secured victory in direct sets.
Andreeva admitted after the match that she had lost the track of the score on the match. “Frankly, I kept thinking that I was facing a break … And in the end I completely forgot the score,” she said. “I’m happy to have done it, otherwise I would be three times more nervous.”
Shelton is ready to go against the winner Jannik Sinner vs Grigor Dimitrov, while Andreeva will now face Belinda Bencic in the quarterfinals.
