Varun Chakravarthy’s fitness was the main topic of discussion among KKR fans ahead of the match against Chennai Super Kings. Varun has been sidelined since the loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad where he injured his finger while attempting a catch.
The Indian spinner has since missed the losing game against PBKS and the loss against LSG at the Eden Gardens. Before the Lucknow game, it was revealed that he did not exist fixed date of Varuna’s return, but it looks like the spinner is in contention to return to the lineup.
A KKR spokesperson revealed during the pre-match press conference that Varun seems fit to play against CSK at Chepauk on Tuesday, April 14. The Indian spinner was said to be training despite wearing a bandage on his hand.
“So Varun was training. He had a bandage on his hand but then he is still training. He was training all the days before this match so he is good,” KKR spokesperson said.
Varun’s return will be a welcome boost for KKR as they look to win this season.
VARUN’S RECORD VS CSK
Varun has a decent record when it comes to matches against CSK. In 11 matches, the Indian spinner picked up 13 wickets against Chennai.
At Chepauk, his home ground, Varun picked eight wickets from seven matches at an average of 24.38. However, the ongoing season has not been great for Varun as he has missed out on runs.
Varun has an economy rate of 13.16 and is wicketless in two matches this season. Another boost that KKR have ahead of their clash with CSK is the arrival of Matheesha Pathirana.
Pathirana has finally received his no-objection certificate (NOC) from Sri Lanka cricket and is in the queue for selection before the match against CSK in Chepauk.
