It is unlikely that the government will soon introduce the temperature range of air conditioning of 20 degrees Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius, when PTI quoted the Minister of the Environment Bhupender Yadav on Friday and added that it will be introduced gradually over time.
After asking when a new AC temperature range will be made, the Minister said that such a situation “may occur after 2050”.
“I don’t think it will happen immediately; the capacities will be gradually built over time,” he said.
YADAV said that climatic objectives must be carried out in accordance with the national circumstances and the principle of CBDR-RC (common but differentiated responsibility and relevant abilities).
According to the Indian national contributions (NDC) or the national climate plan, which will undergo the UN climate body, it emphasizes the “approach to energy of his people”.
This principle of CBDR-RC means that all countries must fight climate change, but all developed nations should do more because they have historically contributed more emissions and have more sources.
Setting AC temperature:
At the beginning of June, the Minister of Trade Union Manohar Lal Khattar said that air -conditioning units in India will soon be required to operate in a fixed range of 20 degrees Celsius at 28 degrees Celsius and settings below or above this limit will be prohibited.
According to the Energy Efficiency Authority, most AC in India is currently determined between 20 and 21 degrees Celsius, although the ideal range of comfort is 24 to 25 degrees Celsius.
Bee recommends setting air conditioning at 24 to 25 degrees Celsius to compensate for the comfort and power consumption. It is said that maintaining temperature too low, approximately 20 to 21 degrees Celsius, wasteing electricity.
The agency also says that an increase in temperature AC by only 1 degree can save about 6 % of electricity. Its increase from 20 degrees Celsius to 24 degrees Celsius could lead to energy savings of up to 24 percent.
Every year, India adds 10-15 million new ACS, with another 130-150 million are expected in the next decade. Without political intervention, ACS could drive 120 GW of top energy by 2030 and 180 GW by 2030, which, according to a recent study by Energy and Climate Center (IECC) at the University of California (UC) Berkeley almost 30 percent of the supposed sums.
The study says that the fastest developing main economy can prevent serious energy deficiency and save consumers £2.2 Lakh Crore ($ 26 billion) double the energy efficiency of the ACS room in the next 10 years.
In the summer of 2024, sales in the air conditioning of the room increased by 40 to 50 percent at record temperatures.
Research shows that the share in the household sector in the total electricity consumption in India increased from 22 % in 2012–13 to 25 % in 2022-23. Much of this increase can be attributed to economic growth and growing need for cooling due to growing temperatures, experts say.
