Rohit Sharma’s return remains the main talking point ahead of Mumbai Indians’ clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad. With MI struggling to settle the top order in his absence, fans are still waiting for clarity on whether the former captain will take the field.
However, the franchise did not close the door on his return. According to the latest update, the final decision on Rohit’s availability will be taken only during the match day draw.
“He continues to progress. Any call on his availability (for the game against SRH) will be taken at the draw tomorrow,” an MI spokesperson said.
Rohit’s absence in the last few matches was felt. MI tried multiple combinations above, but none quite clicked, leaving a visible gap in both stability and intent.
WHY IS ROHIT SHARMA NOT ACTING?
Rohit was sidelined after suffering a hamstring injury in MI’s home loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 12.
Since then, MI have been struggling to find a consistent opening pair. Options like Quinton de Kock, Ryan Rickelton and Denmark’s Malewar have been rotated but the results have not been consistent.
Malewar in particular has had a tough time posting scores of 2 and 0 in their last two outings. Lack of stability at the top affected MI’s starts and put pressure on the middle order.
Despite missing the last three matches, Rohit remains MI’s fourth-highest run-scorer this season with 137 runs at an average of 45.66 and a strike rate of 165, underscoring his importance to the side.
WILL ROHIT SHARMA PLAY IN MI VS SRH?
Currently, Rohit’s participation is still uncertain and will depend on his fitness assessment closer to the match.
The MI camp remains cautiously optimistic, suggesting he is progressing well, but is yet to commit to a definitive return. The final challenge will take place in a draw, keeping fans guessing until the last minute.
With Mitchell Santner already ruled out due to injury and replaced by Keshav Maharaj, MI are already dealing with selection challenges. There is also uncertainty over Will Jacks placement in the playing XI despite his strong record in similar conditions.
