Will Pakistan play India in T20 World Cup semi-final or final? Salman Agha reveals

February 5, 2026

Pakistan captain Salman Agha has spoken about the possibility of facing India in the semi-final or final of the T20 World Cup 2026. The Pakistan government has denied its players permission to participate in the group stage match against India scheduled to be played on February 15 in Colombo.

Before the tournament, Salman Agha was asked about his government’s stance about facing India during the competition and a possible clash between the two teams in the semi-finals or final.

Commenting on the possibility of facing their arch-rivals in the knockout stages, Salman Agha said that if such an opportunity arose, they would have to approach their government again for permission.

“The India match is not under our control. It was the government’s decision and again, if we have to play them in the semi-final or the final, we have to go back to them and take their advice. It is the government’s decision and we respect it and whatever they say, we will do it,” Agha said on Thursday.

Pakistan are placed in Group A along with India, Namibia, Netherlands and USA. Salman Agha expressed his excitement to take on the other teams in the group and said the side would erase their previous loss against the USA in the last edition of the tournament.

The PCB has not yet informed the ICC about the boycott stance

“We have three more matches to play and we are very excited about it. Yes, we lost to the USA in the last World Cup, but that is history. It is a new World Cup, a new team and a new combination and we are very excited about it,” added Agha.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s warm-up against Ireland was washed out due to rain. The men in green will begin their campaign against the Netherlands on February 7 at the Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is yet to inform the International Cricket Council (ICC) about their boycott stance against India after the government’s decision.
