The Communist Party of India (CPI) will not remain a spectator if the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) are “politically persecuted”, Keralam State party secretary Binoy Viswam has said.

He was responding to media queries on reports that the state advocate general had advised the United Democratic Front-led government to accept a letter from the Enforcement Directorate to the state police chief to register a first information report (FIR) against opposition leader and CPI(M) politburo member Pinaraya Vijayan, his daughter T. Asked about the CPI’s stance on the issue, Mr. Viswam first said the party would study it and respond. He later said that the CPI has a clear stand on this which does not need to be clarified every day.
